Sometimes, irregardless of how strong we have become or how deep we've sunk our roots, circumstances beyond our control rise and we find that who and what we are, who we've strove to be and to become, is revealed to be simply not enough. We lean into the wind; we bend and sway... we stand tall to resist the storm. And then one day we crack imperceptibly along a fault-line or a twist, and then without warning a gust of wind, which before would have caused us to sway with the universe, splits us to the core of our being and we crash to the ground. Who and what we were is forever changed.

Today marks the completion of my 46th orbit on this little round planet and I've never been more grateful of the sojourn than I am at this point in my life. I have taken the long way around and often the wrong way around and have continuously come out the other side more humbled and more human.

VOX box

My test driven, new to me toy just in time for my big 46th Bday! It's not a Harley or a little red sports car, but this sweet little VOX AC4C1 tube amp has more than enough jam to fill any venue I'll find myself playing in. It's a gem and I got it for a song. [grin]

Riverhurst Reminiscence

After dropping off two of the kids at camp a couple weeks back I took an alternative route across Diefenbaker Lake on the Riverhurst ferry and into the town. My grandma was an early elementary school teacher there for most of my childhood and we would spend long summer days and holiday weekends there with extended family, especially at Christmas. My brief pass through the town, some of which hasn't changed in 40 years, was a deep dive into memory and nostalgia.

Flashback Nov '08

"This Tricot Machine video is the craziest thing I've ever seen. I couldn't darn my socks with a gun to my head."

This was my opinion November 11, 2008. I still can't darn socks, but I have since seen Loving Vincent which sets a new standard for this sort of creative animation. I highly recommend it seeing it if you haven't yet. Breathtaking.

Along with new regular posts here, I'm going to draw from the Unedited archives to bring to the surface old post from past incarnations of this blog.

Here we go

On August 18, 2003 I started a blog called "Unedited Ravings: the spaces in-between" a name that I'm proud to say was only partially original and wholly inspired by two separate friends who at different times and in their own ways embodied these for me without their ever knowing it.

The blog had quite a good run and a modest following. I've made no secret of my disdain for he that should not be named and his book of faces. I've also lamented to those who've been willing to listen the death of my blog by his hand... not so much by violence as by poison.

In the last month I have decided that against all odds I am going to pick up the mantle once more

This is day one of bogging... but it's late and I'm going to bed. Looking forward to rambling, ranting, raving, and after all that... perhaps repenting.

A quote to gnaw on:

"Do not be overwhelmed at the sound of a bell that has not yet been struck."

-From a recent dream my wife had- (no kidding, really)
